Finding a bicycle shop is a relatively easy task. Chain stores across the country offer a variety of bicycles at affordable prices. However, what chain stores can not offer is the personal customer service and attention that a local bicycle shop can. Local shops tend to hire people passionate about biking that know the best routes and offer group rides.

Cahaba Cycles in Birmingham, Alabama offers a wide selection of bicycles for the recreational rider to the competitive cyclist. The first time I walked in to Cahaba Cycles I was immediately greeted and asked what brought me in to the shop. After a brief discussion with the associate, Ian, I looked at a variety of hybrid bicycles. Ian encouraged me to test ride several bicycles in the local neighborhood before making a purchase. Ian also took time to make sure I was riding a bike that fit me. Originally, I …

My First Bicycle

Growing up as the only girl in a family with three brothers has both its benefits and negative sides. Being the only girl and the youngest child just enhances both the benefits and the negative side effects. As a young child, I grew up in a neighborhood with mostly boys. Older boys that were friends with my brothers. I was still too young to go to school, so everyday I sat outside and watched all the older kids ride up and down the streets on their bicycles. Both of my neighbors raced bikes, boy was this a tease! All three of my brothers had their own bicycles, and then there was little ol' me. Sitting and watching, with envy filled eyes until one day my mom got me my first bicycle!

I was so excited as I jumped on the pink and white bike, with its white tires and flairs …

Use a Trunk Bag with a High-quality Bicycle! Save Yourself Thousands of Dollars, Improve Your Health, Help the Environment, and Have Fun!

In many areas of the U.S., average folks could be saving themselves many hundreds of dollars per year by doing something as simple as pedaling a bicycle several blocks to the supermarket or drugstore. I'm not speaking primarily of kids or college students. If I can do this at age 53 (and if others can do it at far more advanced ages), you can likely do it. You don't have to be in "athletic" condition (I'm certainly not!); you just have to be able to pedal and steer a modern bike, which, for the majority of the population, is scarcely more complicated than taking a daily stroll through the neighborhood.

However, to make this moneysaving approach really work (and not turn into yet another failed experiment), you can't just hop aboard some dusty old, hard-to-shift contraption that you bought at the likes of Wal-Mart years ago and soon relegated to …
