Local Bicycle Shop in Birmingham, Alabama Provides Great Service

Finding a bicycle shop is a relatively easy task. Chain stores across the country offer a variety of bicycles at affordable prices. However, what chain stores can not offer is the personal customer service and attention that a local bicycle shop can. Local shops tend to hire people passionate about biking that know the best routes and offer group rides.

Cahaba Cycles in Birmingham, Alabama offers a wide selection of bicycles for the recreational rider to the competitive cyclist. The first time I walked in to Cahaba Cycles I was immediately greeted and asked what brought me in to the shop. After a brief discussion with the associate, Ian, I looked at a variety of hybrid bicycles. Ian encouraged me to test ride several bicycles in the local neighborhood before making a purchase. Ian also took time to make sure I was riding a bike that fit me. Originally, I was looking at a frame size that would have been uncomfortable had I not been shown the best fit for me.

The shop offers several brands of bicycle. Most notably it carries Trek, Gary Fisher, and Cannondale. They offer all the standard accessories and are always willing to talk with the customer to find out what needs he or she may have. I found that the prices are competitive, and the store has several weekends a year where they offer a savings on regular prices. When I purchased my Trek 7.2 FX I was able to purchase the previous year's modes at a discount. It also offers a free tune up with any new bicycle purchase.

In addition to great service, Cahaba Cycles has an easy to use website that offers local routes and information about group rides. They host rides for beginner cyclist all the way to competitive racers.

Chain stores may offer similar bicycles at cheaper prices, but they do not offer the service a local shop can. These large stores hire employees with a vague knowledge of the products they are selling. This leaves the uninformed consumer at a large disadvantage. If given the option, I would always encourage consumers to support their local bike shop.
