Bicycle Blues

To this day, I still love to ride my bike. Now that I have a car, my bike is used more for leisurely activities and not so much travels anymore. I used to ride my bike everywhere! There was nowhere I wasn't up for biking to; however, it was not always like that. There was a point in time when I avoided my bike. This was after "The Accident." Of course, I got over these negative feelings for my bike eventually but I'll never forget that summer bike ride and how it went from a normal ride to a bloody struggle back home.

I was riding my bike with friends to the local drug store for frozen treats. We decided the bike path would be our fastest way of travel. About halfway there, I had ridden into a deep pothole causing my bicycle chain to fall off and the spokes of my bike slicing their way up my right leg. As the oily blood oozed down my leg, I had to limp all the way back home dragging my broken bicycle with me. This felt like the longest walk of my life, at the time. Luckily for me, I did not need stitches or a hospital visit. When I got home, my mom helped me wash my leg and even let me pick out what kind of band aid I wanted to use. I will forever carry the scars that this bike ride left.
