My Favorite Vehicle Neither a Bicycle, Motorcycle or Car – A Golf Cart!

At some point in their life almost everyone owns a bicycle or car. One of them often leaves an everlasting impression on them for years to come. I have had numerous bicycles and cars during my 63 years. They included my first car,the one you never forget, a 1960 comet. Then there were my hot rods, sports cars and numerous other cars, some functional others luxurious. However, before the cars were the bicycles. The first one was a green and cream beach cruiser with a basket and streamers. As I became older, I moved into the ten speed era. However, the best vehicle I have ever owned is my golf cart.

This is no ordinary golf cart. She was custom built to look like a miniature Jaguar convertible. Like all convertibles it has a top that raises and lowers just like a convertible car. It has a tonneau cover to protect the top and make this fire engine red beauty look truly sleek. It sports wire wheels, custom upholstery, four speaker surround sound stereo system and a cooler. Special springs have been installed to help create a smooth ride for my not so tiny self. I get many stares and waves from people for it is the only true convertible registered in our city.

The city I live in allows golf carts to be driven around town. However, other modifications have to be made. They must have seat belts, head and tail lights, brake lights, and directional signals. The city inspects the cart and issues a license for it to be on the streets. Golf carts are allowed on the sidewalks which were built throughout the city to accommodate them. They can also be driven on the streets themselves if the speed limit is 25 MPH. Bike lanes in our city are usually a combination of bike and golf cart lanes. Thus, anything from a doctors visit to grocery shopping can easily be accomplished.

During the gas crisis the ultimate toy has proved her functionality. With a range of about forty miles and a cruising speed on slight inclines of 22 MPH she takes me where I need to go. More than that the savings on gas is incredible. After a long drive, I plug her in over night for a cost of about 50 cents or less and she is ready to go again. She is also a beautiful site on the golf course with palm trees and mountains in the background. So, my golf cart is very special and very functional. Family and friends especially my grandchildren love the adventure of riding with me in my favorite vehicle. Even my dog prefers it to riding in the car. Doesn't everyone dream of a fire engine red sports car at some point in their life? I got mine and by the way, I don't even play golf !
