The Bicycle: A College Student's Best Friend.

If you are in college, no doubt you get tired of walking from one class to another, or walking from your dorm room to class. Walking isn't bad. It's good. If you are in college, chances are you are over weight. Biking will help you while in college.

Let's look at how a normal day goes. If you live in a dorm or in an apartment complex near school, you might want to consider a bike. Have you taken a look at your school's parking lot lately? Unless you attend a private university, chances are your school's parking lot is full. Also, parking lots are the first thing to receive the dreaded "Under Construction" signs. At my school, UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) they are always under construction. Recently, they closed the road to the "overflow" parking, This road led to a parking lot very near the limits of the school. Walking to class would take about ten to fifteen minutes, if you are a college student you know how precious these minutes can be. If you were to ride a bike to school, you would not only cut this time down, but also get a workout.

Also, you can never have enough friends. Specially in college, you need to diversify your group of friends for the future. Here is where making friends may make a lasting effect on your life. Say you want to become an artist, and you have friends who are marketing students. Making friends with marketing students may help you out on your art career. How does this pertain to biking? How many liberal art majors do you see riding bikes? Stereotypes are partly true, and most of the people who ride bikes in school are liberal arts majors. Weird, but true. There are also many clubs you can join in school: check if they have a bike riding club. Yes, they have the weirdest clubs in college. A bike riding club is not weird.

Here's a big one: gasoline. If you are a college kid, you want to save money. (See this link for tips) Riding your bike to school WILL save you money on gas, even if you live close to school. If you ride your bike to school, you won't burn gas (that's a given),Looking for parking uses much fuel. Don't believe me? Check out this scenario and tell me if it sounds familiar: you see an open spot, and another person is driving to it, so you step on the gas to speed up to it, then you hit your brakes because they beat you. You see another spot, so you floor your engine to get there first. Finally you make it. The stop and go driving is what kills your gas mileage. You do much stop and go driving at school

The time you will save is priceless. By riding your bike to school you can get up to twenty to thirty minutes later. This time is golden! Because you will be riding your bike to school, you will not need to: worry about traffic, the dreaded parking, and you will be awake by the time you get to class. Also, if you have to take many stairs to get to your class, you won't be winded because you will have had a workout from the bike ride. It's great.
Those are all my tips, let me know if you have more, or feel free to add more.
